How many times you have though, if you could make your mouse automatically move when you are away from your desktop? When we are in front of our PC, its more that 100% sure that the mouse cursor will move because of our manual movement of our mouse. Obviously we can’t resist from touching mouse in front of a computer. But when we leave, the mouse kept unmoved and the computer can detect that the mouse pointer is not moving. This comes in concern mostly when you find your computer has gone in screensaver mode or sleep/hibernation without your knowing. Though we can control screensaver or sleep setting, some need a tool that will move mouse automatically even if they are not shaking or touching the mouse.

Move Mouse Automatically

Actually this idea comes on my head when I was play an online game which disconnects me if it finds no movement from my mouse for a certain amount of time. Some games and softwares calls it AFK (Away From Keyboard) mode. This way I had to lose a lot of scores since I had to leave my PC for other works while playing games for long time. Later I had to search for a program that will move my mouse within a given amount of time.

Uses of Auto Mouse Mover Programs

  • Prevent Windows, Mac or Linux from automatically going to sleep.
  • Prevent Screensaver.
  • Prevent games from disconnecting you for long inactivity.
  • Automatically move mouse after a given amount of inactive period.
  • Customize the movement.

On Windows

Auto Mouse Mover by Murgee is the simplest and lightweight tool for Windows which will automatically move your mouse if your cursor is inactive for a given amount of time. For example you can set it to move mouse whenever your computer remains idle for  7 seconds. You can also configure movement parameter for number of pixels, autostart with Windows, run in System Tray, etc. They also have an utility Auto Mouse Clicker to simulate mouse clicks.

Another alternative tool is Move Mouse you can checkout. However I couldn’t get it work on my Windows 8.1.

On Mac

For Mac machines, Jiggler is the most specific tool to auto move your mouse. It will wriggle your mouse every once in a while to keep your Mac awake. This program also come with various settings to meet your requirements.

Another Mac tool by Murgee is Auto Clicker Mac which is merely for click automation purpose.

On Linux and Ubuntu

So far, I have found the only xAutoClick and Murguu tool to automate mouse movement. You can head over to AskUbuntu thread for xAutoClick installation instructions.

If you computer has a system which interacts differently if you are not moving your mouse pointer for a certain amount of time, and that interaction isn’t in favour of you, mouse automation tools may come in handy for you. Let us know if you have found any better tool for your system.
